故事发生在20世纪60年代的韩国，居住在某个乡村的贫穷青年许三观（河正宇 饰）喜欢上了同村最美丽的姑娘许玉兰（河智苑 饰）。传闻玉兰是小混混何小勇的女朋友，但是三观凭借锲而不舍的精神和憨皮赖脸的劲头说服了未来的老丈人，如愿抱得美人归。婚后数年，夫妻二人先后育有一乐、二乐、三乐三个机灵调皮的儿子，一家人的生活也有滋有味。但是一乐越来越像何小勇，引来村里人议论纷纷，这让许三观坐立不安，而他对玉兰、一乐的感情似乎也由此发生了变化。在那个卖血成风的年代，三观曾经用自己的血换来了钱。令他想不到的是，在接下来的人生里，他将不得不为了家人们一次次卖血，苍白羸弱，命在旦夕……
本片根据余华的小说《许三观卖血记》改编。
《十月围城》主要讲述清末民初的香港地区，一个草根人物——车夫阿四误打误撞做起革命青年李重光替身，从而串起整个家族以及周边人投身革命的故事。 宣统二年，同盟会代表抵达香港，商议举行大规模反清起义活动。广东将军铁山奉诏刺杀孙中山。大商人李玉堂母亲病重，要李玉堂带长孙李重光回家，黄包车夫阿四攒钱帮阿纯治眼病，并想向阿纯提亲。开完筹备会议，孙中山安全离开香港，但李重光却被铁山的杀手围追堵截。为了二十块港币，阿四拉着车上的李重光一路狂奔。李重光死在阿四的洋车上。为了老母，李玉堂请求阿四给他当一天儿子。阿四来到广州，进入了四大家族中的"西关李家"。李玉堂临死托付阿四，要把这个家支撑起来，阿四含泪应允。阿四排除万难保住了李家的产业，加入了同盟会，在遭受了种种怀和屈辱后，终于成为了坚定的革命者。
该剧被称作「现代童话」，故事描述游手好闲但长相迷人的Dud在父亲死后加入一个长滩兄弟会，以寻求简单幸福的生活方式。在兄弟会的宿舍里，他和其他成员逐渐建立了感情，并且找到了失去的人生目标和意义。他将直面自己内心最深的恐惧和最大的希望。其他关键角色包括Dud的双胞胎妹妹Liz Dudley和兄弟会宿舍里的长期住户Ernie Fontaine。Ernie是个黑人，他用自己的方式欢迎Dud来到这个神秘的新世界。（cr 天涯小筑）
