这是一部描写明王朝宣德年间景德镇督陶官的故事。剧中景德镇皇家御器厂原督陶官张善人“贪酷虐杨亚(饰司马蓉)剧照下人不堪，所造御用瓷，多以分馈其同列”。宣德二年(1427年)，皇帝朱瞻基为整肃纪纲，怒斩督陶官。一时间皇家御器厂群龙无首，而大批的御瓷任务亟待完成。已成功六下西洋的郑和，正．在筹备第七次下西洋，其货物绝大部分皆为国外预购的景德镇青花御瓷。景德镇皇家御器厂六品督陶官是个肥缺，皇帝宠妃孙娘娘的父亲（孙国丈）在御器厂早有了自己的一块利益，他欲派身边的人出任督陶官，将皇家御器厂占为己有。而浮梁县五品县令罗璋早就对御器厂“把总师傅”鞠细苟的独女、画师鞠莹莹垂涎欲滴，他不惜以牺牲自己的人格为代价，意欲得到督陶官。东厂掌印太监王振对“肥的流油”的督陶官一职亦有非分之想……一时间，围绕着督陶官的人选，明争暗斗，硝烟四起。有“促织天子”之称的宣德帝心中早有打算，他不顾众臣异议，派出“无才”的“蟋蟀皇帝”、号称京城“清大少”的刘一清出任皇家御器厂的六品督陶官，督理陶务，全权负责皇家御用瓷及出口贸易瓷
